Studio Furniture
As a designer and builder of custom woodworking and furniture, I am obsessed with the living environment of everyday life. Form is just as important as function in the furniture that I build. The design aesthetics that I use are based on pushing traditional furniture out of its predictable state. Too often furniture is viewed as primarily functional, when in reality it is used no differently than a sculpture. The furniture that I build is distinctive and doesn’t blend into background. The furniture that I build stands out for its beauty, craftsmanship, and design.
The inspiration for my designs are based on three principles, the elements of nature, materials, and the process of technique. My design aesthetics are broad and vary from simplicity of form to asymmetrical reparations of animals. The designs of my furniture are based on everyday life experiences that everyone can relate to. I try to build furniture that leaves the viewer questioning the technique and process due to the visual interest. This helps to bring the viewer close for a deeper investigation. The materials that I use range from traditional hard and softwoods to industrial materials like concrete and metal, just to name few.
My artistic drive is based on the demand for the excellences of craftsmanship. Structural integrity and understanding of my medium has challenged and inspired me to create furniture that simply and elegantly performs its function. Fulfillment for me as a designer and builder comes from creating functional objects that enhance the rituals of everyday life, hopefully for a lifetime.
